The malaise of Autumn is seeping in with every turning leaf. The air is different, the light is refined. Already now the intensity and vibrancy of summer floats just out of reach, a tantalising echo and shadowy tendril of experience turned softly to memory in front of our very eyes.

Nature mirrors the mood — it’s dance is over for another year; it sighs and exhales and begins the less glorified business of shedding and decay. And in so doing, as it’s golden cascade begins to shower down, we are reminded of our own impermanence, our own so fragile grasp on this our only existence that we consciously know.
However determined the new life of Spring, however warm the heat of the Summer glow, Autumn winds will always blow.
That is the truth of time.
A moment of reflection then, before the submission. Our thoughts already turning to the cold, dark days that lay ahead, whilst the gentle serenade of the light, easy hours and weeks that were, still reverberate through our mind.
Oh how wondrous and how glorified the Summer was — how its light and warmth permeated in to the very fabric of our soul, lifting and carrying us through with gaiety and joy. Oh how easy the days were — the soft grass and sand and tide underfoot, the gentle breeze caressing bronzed skin, the open windows and doors allowing all of nature in, all as one for our shared carnival of colour and life and vibrancy…
And yet now the windows start to close, the nights close in and the pinch of cool air begins to bite upon our skin, heralding that we too must now retreat, back to our hovels and our blankets and the sleepy slumber of wintertime.
The feeling of melancholy sits astride this sense of an ending, penetrating deep and broad. The longing already weaves within it — for a time that was, and which has now passed.
Yet our eyes must turn forward, not back. And as the mighty oak releases its golden leaf and carpets the mossy earth with acorns, the seeds of its future world, we too must cast our minds forward, see this time as one for restoration, healing and redemption. So we too are ready with open hearts and minds for the glory that is Summer time once more.
