Inquest opens into missing tourist found dead in Weymouth garden


THE INQUEST of a man who went missing from a holiday park and later found dead in the garden of a Weymouth home has opened.

Robert Janie Hillier, aged 47 and also known as Jamie, was reported missing from the Haven holiday park in Preston Road at 8.43pm on Saturday, June 19.

Police officers carried out extensive searches in the local area with a large police presence at the Haven holiday park and in the surrounding areas.

Mr Hillier’s body was found two days later in the garden of a residential property in the area of Preston Road, three minutes walk away from the holiday resort.

Dorset Police responded to a call at 4.30pm on Monday, June 21 as the area was cordoned off to allow police officers and ambulance crews attend the scene.

Formal identification took place and confirmed the body was of Mr Hillier from Southampton.

An initial inquest opening has recorded Mr Hillier’s cause of death as one of congestive cardiac failure, cocaine intoxication and chronic alcohol disease.

A spokesman for Bournemouth Coroner’s Court said that a final inquest date has yet to be set.
