SOMETIMES it pays to not pay a steep price when it comes to expensive decor.
Design expert Kristyn Cole had TikTok viewers convinced that her cheap DIY was better than the original item.
Kristyn posted a video of herself completing a project that she was sent by one of her followers.
“A follower of mine asked if I could recreate this Skeleton Candy Bowl from Pottery Barn,” she says.
The bowl has a skeleton figure attached with a silver finish.
Pottery Barn charges $199, but Kristyn can remake the bowl for $30.
She gets a large bowl from Target for $9 and a skeleton figure from Amazon for around $15.
Kristyn places the bowl on top of the skeleton.
She extends the skeleton’s arms out to hold the top of the bowl.
“The bowl fits perfectly right under his ribcage,” she explains.
Then she hot glues the skeleton to the bowl.
“I secured it in any part his body was actually touching to make it more durable,” Kristyn says.
Kristyn uses the $12.98 Krylon Looking Glass Silver Spray Paint from Amazon to make it look titanium.
For an antique-like finish, she adds streaks of black acrylic paint to the outside of the bowl.
“Here’s the finished look. You can literally put him on a shelf and his legs can dangle down… or you push him back and have him sit completely flat,” she says.
Viewers couldn’t believe how much better they thought Kristyn’s bowl looked compared to the Pottery Barn one.
“Even better than the one from PB,” one woman wrote.
Another commenter added: “I like your better than PB! So CUTE!”
