Guildford local Ivy Baker reached a milestone birthday this month and has given her tips on living a long and happy life.

The Puttenham Hill House resident, who is a big sports fan, celebrated the big day with balloons, presents and her favourite victoria sponge cake.

To mark the special day, the Bupa care home resident received a visit from her daughter, Valerie, and her grandson, Matthew, who together with carers watched her open her birthday cards and presents before enjoying the homemade birthday cake, courtesy of the home’s kitchen staff.

Ivy said: “It feels great to have reached my 95th birthday. I am so grateful to be celebrating with my daughter and grandson. The carers at Puttenham Hill House have done an excellent job at making my birthday so special, with decorations, presents and my favourite cake.”

When asked if she had any advice on living a long and happy life, Ivy said: “Unfortunately, I had an unsettled childhood, but this made me determined to give extra love to all of my family and friends. My advice for a peaceful life would be to avoid arguments with loved ones and always get along with those who you hold dearest. I adore my dedicated family; they are the most important thing to me.”

Ivy joined the care home in October 2019 and staff describe her as ‘a lovely lady with a cheeky sense of humour.’ Ivy is a big sports fan and particularly loves watching rugby and snooker at the home.

Care home manager, Rebecca Elliott, said: “Turning 95 is a big cause for celebration, which is why we wanted to make Ivy’s day one to remember.

“Ivy seemed over the moon when she saw all the decorations and her face lit up the room when her daughter and grandson came to visit, and us all singing happy birthday when I delivered her birthday cake.

“We are so pleased to have been a part of her special day. Everyone here at Puttenham Hill House wishes Ivy lots of love and happiness. Another year wiser.”
