No, tracking calories is not NEEDED for weight loss.

However, itโ€™s the only way you can absolutely guarantee that youโ€™ll lose weight. And due to that, every coach that is worth its weight in salt will strongly recommend that you do so.

Donโ€™t get me wrong. I understand that, yes:

โ€ข Calorie tracking is a pain in the rear in the beginningโ€ฆ
โ€ข It is uncomfortable to see how much energy youโ€™re taking inโ€ฆ
โ€ข It is awkward to weigh your food and put the data in an appโ€ฆ

But you know what is even worse?

โ€ข Dealing for years with the same old problem.
โ€ข Beating yourself up when the weight is creeping back up after a โ€˜fadโ€™ diet.
โ€ข Believing that something is wrong with you and youโ€™re just not โ€˜destinedโ€™ to lose weight.

Calorie tracking helps you see the patterns in your nutrition. It helps you get deep, raw control over your situation. And it helps you see that weight loss is truly not that difficult. Because weight loss is just a math equation.

Calorie tracking is a blessing in disguise.

So instead of using it as a litmus test to weed out coaches, you should be using it as a litmus test to see if the coach is worth working on in the first place.

Because the coach recommending you to track calories is a sign of:

โ€ข The coach wants to guarantee that you succeed.
โ€ข The coach wants to eliminate the chances of yo-yo dieting because youโ€™re seeing patterns in your nutrition.
โ€ข The coach wants to make sure that you lose weight for the least effort required because calorie tracking after you get used to it takes less than 5min/day.
